Zenoh’s Comics – April 2023

Saturday, 22 April 2023, is World Earth Day and with this occasion, we want to transform a complex issue into an efficient solution. 

Issue: The machines from a lot of industries (in this case, a smart coffee machine) are too chatty and they waste a lot of energy, which is a costly problem long term. Why? Because each byte sent between your phone and your smart device has to travel across many switches, routers and fibres and that wastes energy. If the conversation was direct, all the energy consumption would be avoided.

Solution: With Zenoh, we eliminate 90% of that baggage by using one set of data formats for motion, rest and processing. You don’t need to let the data travel across the globe to a data centre that stores your data in another country.

Zenoh avoids the wastefulness of other protocols like DDS, MQTT and NDN, which need to involve several sets of machines, by enabling your phone to talk directly to your smart device, without involving servers all over the globe.
